Damon takes motorcycle safety seriously.  We take it so seriously, in fact, we launched a company specifically to create a safety system that dramatically reduces the number of deaths and injuries of our fellow bikers.

Damon doesn’t just want to make a difference; we want to make the difference. We are working towards reducing the number of motorcycle-related deaths and serious injuries to the point where, by 2030, no fatal accidents will occur on a Damonized bike.

Motorcycle Technology

To bring about this radical leap in motorcycle safety, we had to deconstruct how motorcycles navigate through the many hazards that make an average journey.

Furthermore, to create the technology needed to take on statistics such as 90,000 injuries and 5,000 fatalities each year, we also needed to understand the dynamics of a collision.

Collision avoidance systems in cars are already a reality, and with many of the major auto manufacturers working on fully autonomous vehicles, surely the same safety protocols can apply to motorcycles?

Faster and More Complex

The auto industry investing so much time and money in this technology is a good thing. It has been responsible for producing faster processors and more complex sensors with smaller footprints.

Motorcycles, however, are inherently different from any other vehicle on the road. This difference is characterized by their unique vehicle dynamics: how they lane shift, maneuver, lean, accelerate, and brake. While automotive ADAS systems have made great headway reducing car accidents, an appropriately designed system for riders is needed.

It is here that Damon has picked up the ball and ran with it. Our 360-degree protection system incorporates advanced camera vision, object detection, and processor segmentation, all supported by ground-breaking self-learning AI engines.

In creating our Accident Warning System for Motorcycles (AWSM), we have incorporated radar, live streaming cameras and other non-visual sensors into a single cohesive unit. These components intercommunicate with each other to amplify a rider’s awareness in 360º.

Future Proof

If we had stopped there, our AWSM system could in itself be considered ground-breaking. We wanted to take it to the next level though, which also serves to future-proof our system.

Damon’s 360º AWSM can lock on to the movements of dozens of objects at a time. The onboard software then processes this information and sends out relevant warning signals via LED and vibrating handlebar grips to the rider.

Self-Learning Motorcycles

From the moment the motorcycle is in operation, the software records every warning emitted by the hazard sensors and subsequent action taken by the rider. The captured data is then sent automatically to the Damon cloud platform via 5G.

AI Engines

The next stage in the process involves the use of Artificial Intelligence engines. This factor is yet another reason why our system is not only unique, but also one designed explicitly to self-evolve as take-up, and subsequent data uploads, increase.

Thanks to our in-house programming experts, algorithms of incident data sent to the cloud are built into mathematical models. This data is then processed, and together with our patented crash simulators, build up prediction algorithms.  These algorithms, in turn, create response warnings to potential hazards faster than the human eye can detect them.

Once the AI engine has processed the data and created improved algorithms, updates are eventually sent back to the bike’s processor, notifying the rider of an update.

The following is a breakdown of the sequence of events:

  1. The motorcycle’s AWSM system identifies a threat, processes the information, and conveys the warning to the rider; all in a fraction of a second.
  2. The rider responds to the alert and takes corrective action.
  3. An onboard computer recognizes that the rider took corrective action and stores camera and radar situational data around the motorcycle in 360 degrees, 15 seconds before and after an incident.
  4. The subsequent situational recorded data uploads to the Cloud via a continuous 5G link.
  5. The cloud aggregates recordings from thousands of incidents that are processed by our AI engine to find patterns in rider and driver behavior that caused the incident.
  6. Once processed and tested, new and updated algorithms to increase reaction times and likely scenarios are available for riders to download.

These downloaded updates to the bike’s software contribute to a faster more refined system, alerting the rider to potential hazards faster. The entire process is eventually becoming a seamless, self-learning, triangulated integration.

The part of the technological jigsaw however that allows for large amounts of data to be cloud processed and bounced back to the bike’s software, is 5G.

5G Platform

The rollout of this 5th Generation broadband network brings with it three primary advancements. Firstly, far greater wireless speeds, (anywhere between 30-50 times faster than current broadband), which in turn allow for rapid sending of more significant amounts of data.

Secondly, 5G’s ability to deliver these incredible speeds while still offering low latency, thus increasing reliability, responsiveness, and cutting down on transfer delay.

Last but not least, is 5G’s capacity to connect far higher numbers of devices such as smart devices and sensors.

When in operation, Damonized bikes all over the world will contribute data for our AI engines to Cloud process, for the common good of all.

It is this exceptional talent for visualizing and executing cutting edge technology which will enable Damon to have such a dramatic impact on the number of motorcycle-related deaths and injuries.
